Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and the holiest month of the year for Muslims around the world. It is the month in which the Quran was first revealed, the month whose nights contain Laylatul Qadr — better than a thousand months — and the month in which the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed.
The month of Ramadan — in which the Quran was revealed as guidance for the people.
Quran 2:185
Fasting (Sawm) is the fourth pillar of Islam. Allah made it obligatory so that believers might attain Taqwa — God-consciousness, piety, and awareness that He is always watching. When a person restrains themselves from food, drink, and desires for the sake of Allah, it trains the soul in discipline and remembrance.
Every deed of the son of Adam is for himself, except fasting — it is for Me and I shall reward it. Fasting is a shield. When one of you is fasting, let him not speak obscenely nor shout, and if anyone insults him or wants to fight with him, let him say: I am fasting.
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
Quran 97:3
One thousand months is approximately 83 years — a full human lifetime. Worship on this single night outweighs 83 years of worship. The Prophet ﷺ told us to seek it in the odd nights of the last 10 days: the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th nights of Ramadan.
O Allah, You are All-Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.
May Allah allow us to reach Ramadan, fill it with worship, accept our fasts and prayers, forgive our sins, and grant us the blessing of Laylatul Qadr. Ameen.
