The Power of Istighfar — Seeking Allah's Forgiveness

Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah) is among the most powerful and beloved acts of worship in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ — who was sinless and guaranteed Paradise — made istighfar more than 70 times every single day. If he needed it, imagine how much more we do.

I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Magnificent, besides Whom there is none worthy of worship, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence, and I repent to Him.

Istighfar Brings Provision and Rain

I said: Ask forgiveness from your Lord; He will forgive you. He will send rain to you in abundance and give you increase in wealth and children and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.

The scholars explain that istighfar is a key that unlocks rizq (provision). When you feel stuck — in finances, in health, in relationships — increase your istighfar. It is a Sunnah-backed remedy.

By Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times each day.

Simple Ways to Increase Istighfar

• Say "Astaghfirullah" 100 times after Fajr prayer
• Use Sayyid al-Istighfar as your morning and evening dhikr
• Make istighfar whenever you sin — immediately, without delay
• End every gathering with "Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika, ashhadu an la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk"
• Seek the last third of the night for istighfar — Allah descends and asks "Is there anyone seeking forgiveness?"

Allah says in Hadith Qudsi: "O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you." There is no sin too great for Allah's forgiveness — only the sin of despairing of His mercy.
